Chad, I have 4, 4 foot double flourescents hanging from the ceiling over the car. I get great light, except when i'm try to work with the hood up as my garage door would not let me put lights at that end of the ceiling. Ive seen guys put lights along the walls but they really bother me after a while.

I have doors that swing open so hanging them from the ceiling won't be a problem. I hope to get the new type of bulbs that are thinner. (can't remember what there called) I here they last longer and will light up right away when there cold.

I just bought some lights tonight for my garage. I went with some 8 foot Heavy Duty Lithonias, Flourescent with cold start ballasts. I'm going to put them up tomorrow, wire them and see how many more I need . I only bought 3 for right now....they aren't cheap at $55 each + $14 for the 2 bulbs (T12 110 Watts). The ballast in the light fixture is what controls how fast it starts up when it's cold out.

Hey Chad, I have a 30x40' garage with 20 2x4' florescent fixtures arranged in 5 rows. In between these rows, I have 4 rows of 6 recessed incadescent flood lights. The florescents use the cold temp ballast and T8 bulbs. I find that a mix of tube and floods gives a better light with less eyestrain and more natural light. Builder suggested that I use some sunblock when everything is fired up though. Dave

I put up the 3 double lamp 8 footers I bought. They about light the whole garage (30 x 40)up, just the 3 of them and being 12 feet up in the air. I'm going to put up 2 more and stagger them.

Things went pretty smooth today wiring up the lights. I had some help from my brother and with I would of had a second step ladder. On a "lighter" note I only got shocked 1 time! ;D
