is the car an automatic trans? it could be a bad vaccum module. I had a head gasket go and the exhaust was like a steam pipe letting loose all the time.

It is a 4 speed muncie,I think rings, but if it was rings I think it would smoke all the time.No water in oil,I found 2 intake bolts loose.I dont want to jump the gun and rebuild engine,I all so may change valve seals,aNY IDEAS.

pressure test system with a radiator pressure tester see if it leaks down pull plugs and see if antifreeze leaks into cylinders. if not only other way to tell is to take heads off and see if you can see any evidence of a head gasket leaking.

you can rent a pressure testor at autozone. just pay for it and get your money back when you return it.

The if the rings are going bad the engine will burn oil which will be more of a blue smoke. A white smoke indicates coolant getting into the cylinders. You said in another post you found 2 intake bolts loose. If you have a bad intake gasket thats allowing coolant to leak into the intake runners this could cause a white smoke.

blue smoke indicates a problem with burning oil bad valve guides, seals, rings etc. white smoke indicates either module on an automatic transmission is bad and letting transmission fluid into either the intake or through carb. vacuum ports and fluid is getting sucked into the engine and burned in cylinders then out exhaust or some type of coolant leak into cylinders.
