I decided to post the plan for my car under this topic because Pro-touring best describes my plan for the car. I finally found a body shop in Allentown area that is going to start on my car in Mid October. The plan is to start stripping the car of its interior and chrome trim and removing the engine and trans assembly. Putting the car on a trailer and hauling it to the body shop were it will get new 1/4, fenders, frame and undercarriage repainted. I hope to install a GM 502 motor with a t56 trans. (details are still in the works.) This may change. I have contacted Mark from SC@C and we are still working out which suspension package to use on the car. I hope to have all this completed and be at the cruise in OC in may. Its going to be a busy winter.

Great plan Chad Imho, for a corner carver you could do an LS1 for the price of the 502 and have a much better driver. Yes, a very busy winter!

Chad, Sounds like a very good plan. Rob may be on to something with the LS1 as you would save a ton of weight and with the right combination get plenty of hourse power yet still knock down 18-22 MP gallon on the highway. Mark at SC& C is the man for handling. They make some great stuff and being near Quakertown he can install it in his shop if needed. I'm looking at an upgrade for my ride once the lower tube A arms are ready...should be any day now. This sounds likea very cool build. If you need any help let me know.

I can tel you Chad, the LS1 ROCKS, my bone stock Trans Am ran a 13.25. And like others said, would lighten up the Chevelle a bit. Good luck.

I never really thought much about an LS1 until you guys brought it up. The little bit of research I've bin able to do on the subject is that a stock unit is about roughly 350 horsepower. I am looking for a little more in the power department. How easily can you get a 500 horsepower out of an LS1. and is it still with in the price range of the 502? Please I welcome any input you can give me on the subject. The hole project is falling together a lot faster then I could have imagined. My wife has given me the green light so I'm going to run with it before she changes her mind. ;D

I don't think you could get a 500hp LSX for the cost of a 502, but you wouldn't need as much hp because of the weight savings. All you would want to know could probably be found here. www.ls1tech.com/forums/index.php?Rob C.

it cost roughly the same to build a 500hp lsx as a sb. but the driveability of an lsx is far better than a sb. the way they are designed, wit the 15* heads, they are just awesome. heads and cam swap, on stock bottom end, no problem seeing 425-450hp to the wheels. cam only with bolt ons, just shy of 400hp to the wheels. not bad at all. and cams are relativly small too.
these motors love up to 150shot also. anyything more, should be built for it, and then they love it even more.

I called Mark at SC&C yesterday about the set up of my car. He is a great guy! We spent about an hour on the phone talking about the suspension set up and the power train. There are a ton of options out there. All in all I felt very confident in his advice. He didn't try to sell me all the top of the line items. He was much more concerned at finding out what I wanted from my car. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to upgrade there suspension or Brakes.

Just spent most of the day working on my car. Managed to get the interior and dash out of the car. I still need to remove the heater control box, carpet and headliner. I took a couple pictures and was trying to figure out how to post them here. Anyway I will try and keep you guys informed of the progress.

Well the car is pretty much striped. I pulled the engine and trans out on monday and stripped most of the chrome off. I talk to Butch yesterday (Body man) he bought the 1/4, fenders, weather strip kit and body bushing kit for my car at Carlisle. The plan is to trailer it up to him the weekend of the 27. He wants to have the body off the frame by mid November and have the frame sent to the powdercoaters. I'm still undecided about the motor. I have pretty much decided to go with a TKO trans.

Chad, Sounds like you are well on your way. The TKO is going to require some tunnle mods, but it will be great when done. I'm sure you losing sleep over the motor debate. Either way you can't go wrong. Just think of it as your the GM designer now so build it the way you that makes you happy.

Everything looks real solid. A littel surface rust but hey that's nothing for a 38 year old car. Keep the pics coming.
I saw your post on TC about a motor. You may want to call that guy Wolf's place. Sounds like he does some nice work. Your other option is talk to Spider Dan about the guy who built his blower motor.
